Compay Segundo : La más intensa escuela de Repilado fue sin duda su inmersión en la bohemia santiaguera de los años 20 en adelante. Desde muy pequeño se relacionó con trovadores de la talla de Sindo Garay, que era muy cercano a la familia, Miguel Matamoros y Ñico Saquito.
@allmusic : Collaborating with the likes of Sindo Garay, Miguel Matamoros and Benny Moré, he emerged as one of the most respected musicians of the pre-revolution era, and in the late ’20s invented the armónico, a guitar customized with a double third string to fuse the tonal qualities of the traditional Cuban tres guitar and its Spanish counterpart.
@last.fm : His curious stage name derives from the fact that he played second voice in a popular duet of the 1950s called Los Compadres (compadre, or compay for short, in Cuba means “baptism brother”, but as a colloquialism is used also to designate a good friend).
