Wikipedia : This day (September 19, 1945), in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is born David Bromberg, an American bluegrass, blues, folk, jazz, etc. multi-instrumentalist and singer.

David Bromberg : Born in Philadelphia in 1945 and raised in Tarrytown, NY, “as a kid I listened to rock ’n’ roll and whatever else was on the radio,” says Bromberg. “I discovered Pete Seeger and The Weavers and, through them, Reverend Gary Davis. I then discovered Big Bill Broonzy, who led me to Muddy Waters and the Chicago blues.

@allmusic : A strikingly gifted multi-instrumentalist with an intuitive understanding of American roots music styles and a sly sense of humor, Bromberg has earned a following for his many solo recordings and has served as a sideman and collaborator with some of the most respected artists in his field.

@last.fm : The quintessential musician’s musician, Bromberg is proficient on fiddle, many styles of acoustic and electric guitar (to each of which he lends a highly individual voice), pedal steel guitar and dobro. David Lindley, Norman Blake, Mark O’Connor, and Ricky Skaggs are among the small number of other major musicians with equal proficiency on three or more string instruments.
