Eubie Blake, 1883-1983 – American Memory – Library of Congress : Eubie Blake was one of the most important figures in early-20th-century African-American music, and one whose longevity made him a storehouse of the history of ragtime and early jazz music and culture.

Eubie Blake@allmusic : He wrote his first rag, The Charleston Rag, in 1899, spent years playing with medicine shows and in sporting houses, and by 1915 was teaming up with singer Noble Sissle in vaudeville.
