Trijntje Oosterhuis: Daughter of a theologian (Huub Oosterhuis) and a musician (Jozefien Melief, flutist for the Amsterdam Promenada Orchestra), Trijntje was brought up in a culturally rich, supportive household. At 17 she formed a group with her brother Tjeerd called Total Touch.

Aga Zaryan : She has been successful in integrating ambitious artistic goals with popular appeal, recording four albums to date, all of which have earned gold, platinum or multi-platinum status in Poland. In 2008 she was honored with the Polish music industry’s most prestigious prize – the Fryderyk Chopin Award.She was nominated for the title of Woman of The Year 2008 by Gazeta Wyborcza-Wysokie Obcasy, one of Poland’s most influential and widely circulated newspapers

Halie Loren : Not the play-it-safe jazz of mall-bound Musak, but the real deal. Think Peggy Lee and Billie Holiday and Joni Mitchell, or, more recently, Diana Krall, Norah Jones. But such comparisons are only historic reference points, a means of entry. What’s important to understand is that when Halie Loren sings, you not only hear the music. You feel it. She’s right there, in the room with you, filling the space with intimate stories of love and heartbreak, memory and hope, experience and passion—in a word, life.

Meschiya Lake c/o Avalon Jazz : I’ve been to a lot of trad jazz shows at the beergarden, but Meschiya and her band, The Little Big Horns, managed to get everyone, even jaded hipsters, up and dancing. The entire open area in front of the stage was filled with lindy-hoppers as well as random “non-dancer” civilians all dancing together. It was a wonderful thing to see!

Barb Jungr : “One of the best interpreters of Jacques Brel and Bob Dylan anywhere on this angst ridden planet today” (Village Voice, New York) and “one of the best nightclub singers in the world” (Time Out New York), Jungr is “a fearless iconoclast who dives into the deepest waters of popular song to wrest exotic treasure from the ocean floor” (The New York Times). Her earlier Dylan collection, Barb Jungr Sings Bob Dylan: Every Grain of Sand (Linn Records 2002), which the Wall Street Journal called “the most significant vocal album of the 21st century thus far,” is now regarded as a cult classic album

Barbara Mason : Barbara Mason is an underrated star. Still living in the Philadelphia area, she continues to perform and laughingly says that if President Clinton ever calls to ask her to sing at the White House, she will be ready. The song that she wrote and recorded as a teenager, Yes, I’m Ready, has been played on the radio more than three million times.

Eleni Dimou : In her almost thirty year spanning career, Eleni Dimou recorded more than 20 albums, nine went gold and three platinum in Greece. She is married to producer and engineer Akis Golfidis and the couple have a son named Anthony.

Lisa Ekdahl : At the age of 19 Lisa Ekdahl started to perform in small jazz clubs with swedish jazz trio “The Peter Nordahl trio”. Lisa has sometimes referred to the years playing smaller clubs with this great trio as a form or “musical education.”
