Wikipedia : This day (October 29, 1945), in New York City, New York, is born Beatrice Melba Smith a.k.a Melba Moore, an American disco, R&B singer and actress who began her performing career in 1967 as Dionne in the original cast of the musical Hair along with Ronnie Dyson and Diane Keaton.

Melba Moore : Ms. Moore later appeared alongside the iconic Eartha Kitt as “Marsinah” in the musical TIMBUKTU! Another first came when she landed the female lead role on Broadway as Fantine in the acclaimed musical, Les Misérables. Melba Moore was the first and last African-American woman to perform in that role.

@allmusic : All the splendor that Moore relished would soon come to a halt. Her husband of 15 years abruptly divorced the songstress without any prior warning. In spite of the personal and professional hardships that resulted from this unforeseen misfortune, Moore was able to rebound.

@last.fm : ‘This Is It’, a minor US hit, reached the UK Top 10 in 1976, and although her pop chart placings have since been inconsistent, Moore remained a fixture on the R&B lists over the following decade. In 2010, Moore collaborated with producer Jimmy D Robinson on several Club/Dance singles. These singles are “Soul Freak”, “Stop It”, “Night Creatures”, “One More Chance”, “In The Fire”, and “Moonchild.” All of the singles have been released on MP3 Download format.
