INFORMATIONS

Swingmusic.net: Benny Carter left the U.S. for Paris in 1935 to join the Willie Lewis band on trumpet and alto before moving to England at the urgings of Leonard Feather to take the aforementioned BBC arranging job. Unfortunately, during this period Carter was only able to record as an instrumentalist sparingly due to musician union rules. In the summer of 1937 he played a season at a Dutch seaside resort leading a big interracial and international band, the first successful unit of its kind in jazz history.

the Jude Johnstone fan site : While Johnstone surely enjoyed and appreciated the success she had as the writer of hit songs for other singers, she decided to take another shot at the recording career she had always dreamed of. So, in 2002, with disco being nothing more than a mirror ball memory, Johnstone successfully released her first CD, Coming of Age, on the independent recording label, Bojak Records

Kellin Watson : Kellin has been playing music and writing songs for the past 12 years. Releasing her first demo album, Little things in 1998, Kellin got her first taste of recording in a studio. Since then, she released her debut solo inde album, Paper Bird, in December 2003, at 22.

Merrilee Rush : Her version of Angel of the Morning remains one of the most enduring staples of radio play lists (it’s played across the country every morning by radio disc jockeys) and it continues to light up Hollywood soundtracks like Tom Cruise’s “Jerry Maquire,” “Girl, Interrupted” and Harvey Keitel’s “Fingers.”

Carmen Lundy : Carmen Lundy began her professional career as a jazz vocalist and composer when there were very few young, gifted and aspiring jazz vocalists on the horizon. Three decades later, Ms. Lundy is celebrated throughout the world for her vocal artistry and is highly regarded for her jazz innovation. Her contribution of over 40 self-penned compositions now comprises the New Jazz Songbook.

Wikipedia : The pair (Gerald Levert, Miki Howard) later became romantically involved, and that romance spawned one of Howard’s biggest hits, “Love Under New Management”. The song was written during their brief love affair, but was released after their romance had dissolved. Howard secured her first R&B #1 single with her 1989 hit “Ain’t Nuthin’ in the World”, and scored another #1 with 1992’s “Ain’t Nobody Like You”.

Loreena McKennitt : I grew up in rural Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of a nurse and a livestock dealer and enjoyed a fairly free and easy rural childhood. I aspired to be a veterinarian as a child but, in the way that “the best laid plans get sent sideways”, I found that music chose me rather than me, it.

Room Eleven : So, imagine Room Eleven, a band that came into existence because of a simple note pinned on a notice board at the Conservatorium in Utrecht. With their 2006 debut album Six White Russians And A Pink Pussycat, they have managed to impress an increasingly bigger audience with a catchy mixture of jazz, pop, funk, blues and a touch of folk
