There are 104 beats in each section, grouped into 52 two-time measures; to the first section are added a few supplementary measures to serve as an introduction.

Barnes & Noble : The Ensemble Nipponia was formed in 1964 and is dedicated to the performance of traditional and contemporary commissioned work for traditional Japanese instruments.

Buddha Torrents : In combination, the koto and shakuhachi of Lullaby For The Moon are magnificent and these compositions (including some variations on “Sakura,” a very familiar theme in Japanese music) are premium quality, falling together like some act of nature.

Canadian Society for Asian Arts : Masters of traditional Japanese music, Alcvin Takegawa Ramos and Satomi Saeki offer moving new musical interpretations of the classic poetry of The Tale of Genji. Recitations of selected poems from the tale in both English and the original Japanese will provide inspirational links between their renderings of the themes of love, the seasons, solitude, and impermanence perfectly suited to the haunting sounds of shakuhachi, biwa, and koto.

Nonesuch : There are few, if any, other instruments in the world that associate so complex a playing technique with such simplicity of construction. Despite the presence of only five holes (and no keys), the instrument has a complete chromatic scale of more than two octaves. (about Kōhachiro Miyata)

Wikipedia : Takahashi Chikuzan lost his sight at around age two from measles before becoming a live-in apprentice of the Tsugaru-jamisen performer Toda Jūjirō near his home town. Before World War II he spent many years touring the Aomori and surrounding countryside, playing before doorsteps and making money any way he could.

Amazon : Evening Snow by Tani Senzan/Tanaka Yoko is beautiful, peaceful traditional Japanese music. The soothing tones of the shakuhachi flute and the koto blend together harmoniously.
