Wikipedia : This day ( April 24, 1970), in Chicago, Illinois, died Otis Spann, an American blues musician.

@allmusic : An integral member of the nonpareil Muddy Waters band of the 1950s and ’60s, pianist Otis Spann took his sweet time in launching a full-fledged solo career.

@last.fm : Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Spann became known for his distinct piano style. Playing piano since the age of eight, Spann was already working with bands in his hometown when he was just fourteen. A few years later saw Spann move to Chicago, playing solo gigs and by the early ’50s he could be found accompanying Louisiana guitarist Morris Pejoe’s band.
