@Facebook : Although Chess hosted its own killer house band, James traveled to Rick Hall’s Fame studios in Muscle Shoals in 1967 and emerged with one of her all-time classics. Tell Mama was a searing slice of upbeat Southern soul that contrasted markedly with another standout from the same sessions, the spine-chilling ballad I’d Rather Go Blind.

@allmusic : At the same time, despite possessing one of the most powerful voices in music, James only belatedly gained the attention of the mainstream audience, appearing rarely on the pop charts despite scoring 30 R&B hits

@last.fm : She is the winner of four Grammys, seventeen Blues Music Awards, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (in 1993), the Blues Hall of Fame (in 2001), and the Grammy Hall of Fame (in both 1999 and 2008).

@Discogs : Finally, in 1988 she went back to the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio she so succesfully recorded in twenty years earlier and with Barry Beckett and the top studio sessionists made the album Seven Years Itch and from then on and until 2006 she has recorded frequent and solid albums. In january 2011 she was diagnozed with leukemia.
