Wikipedia : This day (July 22, 1941), in Kannapolis, North Carolina, is born George Clinton, an American singer, songwriter, inventor of P-Funk and bandleader for Parliament and Funkadelic.

George Clinton :

@allmusic : The mastermind of the Parliament/Funkadelic collective during the 1970s, Clinton broke up both bands by 1981 and began recording solo albums, occasionally performing live with his former bandmates as the P.Funk All-Stars.

@last.fm : In Plainfield, he ran a barber salon, where he straightened hair, and soon formed a doo wop group, inspired by Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, called The Parliaments. Despite initial commercial failures, The Parliaments eventually found success under the names Parliament and Funkadelic in the seventies.
