Wikipedia : This day (December 6, 1947), in Prague, Czechoslovakia, is born Miroslav Vitousa Czech jazz bassist.
Official Website : Many gifted musicians start playing at an early age, and Vitous began playing the violin at the age of six. He subsequently played the piano at age 10, before settling on the bass at 14.
@allmusic : In the meantime, Vitous became immersed in academia, joining the faculty of the New England Conservatory in 1979 and becoming head of the jazz department in 1983.
@last.fm : Vitous’ virtuoso jazz bass playing has led critics to place him in the same league as Scott LaFaro, Dave Holland, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Christian McBride. A representative example of Vitous’s double bass playing is Now He Sings, Now He Sobs (1968), with Chick Corea on piano and Roy Haynes on drums.
