Wikipedia : This day (December 23, 2013), in Amherst, Massachusetts, died Yusef Lateef, an American multi-instrumentalist and composer.
Official Web Site : Yusef Lateef is a Grammy Award-winning composer, performer, recording artist, author, visual artist, educator and philosopher who has been a major force on the international musical scene for more than six decades.
@allmusic : Yusef Lateef has long had an inquisitive spirit and he was never just a bop or hard bop soloist. Lateef, who does not care much for the term jazz, has consistently created music that has stretched (and even broken through) boundaries.
@last.fm : In 1949, Lateef was invited by Dizzy Gillespie to tour with his world-renowned orchestra. At this time, Lateef was known by the name William Evans, thereby making him one of three well-known jazz musicians (besides the pianist and the tenor saxophonist) bearing this name. Notably, all three played with Miles Davis during their careers.
