INFORMATIONS

Guitarchives: Howard Roberts had a number of distinctive stylistic jazzemarks that stand out on these LP’s. He combined elements of bebop and cool jazz with a decidedly funky-bluesy bent (especially on his solos). H.R. had a tremendous energy and drive in his playing which really comes through on tunes like ‘Hoe Down’ and ‘Rough Ridin’.

The Hard Bop Homepage : In the summer of ’61, Curtis Fuller made Art Blakey‘s Jazz Messengers a sextet for the first time. The combined writing and playing talents of Fuller, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and Cedar Walton, driven by Blakey and Jymie Meritt (later Reggie Workman), created one of the most exciting and distinctive bands in the history of hard bop.

All About Jazz : Freddie Redd that is- consummate improvising keyboardist/composer whose original score on Blue Note for Jack Gelber’s searing play “The Connection” reverberates eternally down the marble halls of the charm(ed) school of indelible jazz, thanks to Freddie’s bewitching melodicism, nimble pianistic pyrotechnique,….

Solid! : Millionaire playboy and bandleader Charlie Barnet is one of the more colorful figures in jazz history. Nicknamed ”Mad Mab,” he was married more times than you can count on both hands.

Ray Conniff : Ray has survived in the music business for over 65 years, he has recorded over 100 albums to date and has sold over 70 million albums, cassettes and CD’s. He is the proud recipient of a Grammy Award for his recording of “Somewhere My Love”, two Grammy nominations, over 10 gold albums, 2 platinum albums (“Somewhere My Love” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”), CBS Records-Best Selling Artist for 1962 Award and countless international awards.

Les Hooper : Les has lived in 3 distinctly different locations (Baton Rouge, Chicago and Los Angeles) which accounts for a wide range of musical output. Les has been interested in music since the age of 4 and his love of music has has grown into a rewarding career.

allmusic : His extensive foundation in R&B combined with a mastery of bebop and simplicity that put expressiveness ahead of technical expertise. Green was a superb blues interpreter, and his later material was predominantly blues and R&B, though he was also a wondrous ballad and standards soloist.

The Original Soul Life : I was diggin’ thru a tub o’ wax in my basement and pulled out Milt Jackson‘s Memphis Jackson album recorded in 1969 with the Ray Brown Big Band for Impulse records.
