Wikipedia : This day (July 31, 1931), in Detroit, Michigan, is born Kenny Burrell, an American jazz guitarist.
Kenny Burrell @Verve : Staunch musical integrity and discriminate taste coupled with matchless technique have made the guitarist nonpareil among his peers. My goal is to play with good tone, good phrasing and to swing, says Burrell, I strive for honesty in playing what I feel.
@allmusic : In 2010, Burrell released another live album, Be Yourself: Live at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, recorded at Lincoln Center’s smaller club-like venue. Besides continuing to perform, Burrell is the founder and director of the Jazz Studies Program at UCLA as well as President Emeritus of the Jazz Heritage Foundation.
@last.fm : After moving from Detroit to New York City in 1956, he recorded with a wide range of prominent musicians, including John Coltrane, Benny Goodman, Gil Evans, Stan Getz, Billie Holiday, Milt Jackson, Quincy Jones, Oscar Peterson, Sonny Rollins, Jimmy Smith, Stanley Turrentine, and Cedar Walton.
